If the certificate can be used for signing and encrypting emails in macOS then it should also work in iOS. How can this signing problem be overcome? I am looking for a solution using macOS Keychain access program generated self signed email certificates.

Go to the Advanced settings for this account to choose a signing identity." If I turn on Sign in "Settings/Accounts & Passwords/iCloud/ Mail/ Advanced/Sign" and select the certificate then I receive the following error message in the Mail program: "You can't send signed messages because a signing identity for the address could not be found. However, I can send encrypted emails from both of my iOS devices with this certificate.īut I cannot email signed messages with this certificate. And in "Settings/Accounts & Passwords/iCloud/ Mail/ Advanced/Sign/Certificates" this certificate is "Not Trusted".

In "Settings/General/Profiles" this certificate is "Not verified". During installation of this certificate I get the warning that this certificate is "Not signed". I then installed this certificate on my iPad and iPhone. With this certificate I can send signed and/or encrypted emails from my iMac. I set all Trust settings of this certificate to "Always Trust". I created a self signed S/MIME certificated for email encryption and signing in the macOS Keychain access program. I can send encrypted but not signed emails in iOS 11. I have a problem with a S/MIME certificate.
